An extension to file is not an extension to pay tax.

State-by-state tax filing extension rules, each independently verified against that state's own statute, regulation, or Department of Revenue guidance this session - never copied from another state's rule or assumed to match the federal pattern. Nine states (Alaska, Florida, Nevada, New Hampshire, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Washington, Wyoming) have no state individual income tax; those pages cover business-entity taxes only.

All 50 states, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico are live below, each verified against primary authority. City and local tax jurisdictions (NYC, Philadelphia, Ohio's RITA/CCA municipalities, Michigan cities, Kansas City, St. Louis, Portland/Multnomah, and San Francisco) are covered in their own section further down this page - see the master matrix for the full build status. For pass-through entity elective tax (PTET/BAIT) extensions specifically - a separate question from the entity's own income tax return extension in several states - see the state PTET extension page (27 states: California, New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Illinois, Massachusetts, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Colorado, Maryland, Georgia, Arizona, Ohio, Virginia, South Carolina, Michigan, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Louisiana, Rhode Island, Utah, Alabama, Arkansas, Idaho, Kansas, Mississippi, New Mexico).
